“Dragon Hunter”
Sold
Dia 3” x Ht 1 1/4”
Glazed light blue Lidded Box
#256 - 1994
A fish observes dragonflies as they dart above the water’s
surface.
This lidded box toured with a traveling museum exhibition which
focused on Marguerite Wildenhain* and her pottery students. This
box has also been included in other exhibitions. It is the last
of two lidded boxes which I still own that were carved in 1994.
Other porcelain pieces which were carved after this group from Autumn
1994 were dedicated to exploring inro, netsuke and ojime. Five months
later, I began to carve other materials and did not return to porcelain
carving.
*Marguerite Wildenhain was a Master Potter from the Bauhaus in
Germany, having received her training in the first of the apprenticeships
for pottery. She emigrated to the United States, and eventually
began to teach potters at Pond Farm in California. Towards the end
of her life, I was among her students for three separate summers. |
